Edward Myers Professorship

Edward Myers Professorship

Edward Myers was born in Norfolk, Va., in 1901. He attended the University of Virginia, where he played baseball and competed on the boxing team. After two years at UVA, Myers entered the MCV School of Dentistry and graduated in 1926.

Throughout his career, Myers extended his love of athletics to his community. He served on the board of the Virginia Boxing and Wrestling Commission and built Myers Field, home of the Norfolk Tars baseball team. The Tars were a former minor league club of the New York Yankees that competed in the Piedmont League.

Myers practiced dentistry in Norfolk for 55 years and his usual work schedule was six and one-half days a week. When asked how he accomplished so many community activities while practicing dentistry, he would often reply, "I sleep fast."

Myers was extremely proud of his profession and the MCV School of Dentistry. He created this professorship in 1993 and died in 2000.
