George E. Kaugars Endowment Fund

George E. Kaugars graduated from Florida State University and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the VCU School of Dentistry in 1975. After completing his residencies, he returned to VCU in 1979 as a professor of oral and maxillofacial pathology and radiology until his death from colon cancer in 1999.

Members of Kaugars' class of 1975 established the fund in 2001 to honor a man who dedicated his professional life to educating students while conducting cutting-edge research. The fund provides a research grant in oral pathology for a dental student. The chair of the Department of Oral Pathology determines the criteria used to award a student.
