Dr. C. Robert Helsabeck attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from the MCV School of Dentistry in 1940. He returned to Rural Hall, N.C., after graduation and practiced general dentistry there for 56 years.
Helsabeck and his wife established the scholarship in December 2007 for currently enrolled dental students in financial need. The recipients are chosen by the school administration and may be in any of the four years of dental school. When asked why he was establishing a scholarship, Helsabeck said, "Dentistry has rewarded me in many ways throughout my life. By establishing this scholarship, I can share some of those rewards with the next generation of dentists."
