Among his many achievements: vice president and secretary of the Norfolk Study Club of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity; examiner at the Southern Regional Testing Agency; chairperson of the Tidewater Dental Association; and president of the Virginia Board of Dentistry.

Lefcoe also was an associate clinical professor at VCU's School of Dentistry. He was a big promoter of the school's clinical simulation labs and lectured extensively through continuing education programs at a number of national dental schools.

The permanently endowed Sanford L. Lefcoe Fund was established by his children.
