He participated in water quality surveys and worked with the Virginia Game Commission to protect the flowers and their environment. Shull's public service extended to other areas, such as Little League, the volunteer rescue squad and volunteer fire company. He also provided funds to improve Bridgewater's parks and soccer fields.
